Abstract
This paper discusses the principles of smoke control and the practical application of these principles to zoned smoke control systems. Zoned smoke control can use dedicat ed fans or the fans of a building's heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) sys tems. Application of HVAC systems that serve one or many smoke control zones are dis cussed. The paper discusses concerns with systems that only purge in an attempt to control smoke movement. Considerations of system activation and acceptance testing are presented.
