University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Position Announcement

Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist. The Pathology Section of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL)

(http://www.cvm.uiuc.edu/vdl) and the Department of Pathobiology (www.cvm.uiuc.edu/path), College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (www.cvm.uiuc.edu) are seeking a veterinary anatomical pathologist for appointment as clinical nontenure-track or tenure-track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The VDL serves the state of Illinois as well as the CVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The College has strengths in infectious diseases and biosecurity, cancer biology, environmental toxicology, reproductive biology, orthopedic biology, and conservation medicine among others. Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and ACVP or equivalent certification or commitment to achieving certification. Candidates should have advanced training and experience in diagnostic veterinary medicine and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. An advanced degree is required for a tenure track position. Duties will vary according to type of appointment and interests of the candidate, however, diagnostic activities will involve a significant portion of those duties. Diagnostic service duties will include gross and microscopic examinations, interpretation and correlation of test results, communication of results to referring veterinarians, and preparation of final reports. Expertise or advanced training related to production animals and/or oncology desirable but not required. Teaching duties will include instruction of veterinary students, pathology residents and graduate students, and presenting continuing education programs to veterinarians. Creative scholarly activity will depend on the candidate's interests and may range from improvement of diagnostic services to collaborative or independent research. For clinical nontenure track appointment, assignment of duties is expected to be 75% service, 15% teaching and 10% creative scholarly activity. Tenure-track positions will have a minimum 50% research/scholarly activity appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
