Our aim is to describe the establishment and first 10 years’ experience of a specialist team for providing psychiatric services to individuals with intellectual disability.
Conclusion:
This service is unique in Australia in providing a comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment service to this population in a defined catchment area. It can serve as a model for service development in this area of unmet need.
