Abstract
The aim of the present study was to find out the characteristics related to employment destinations, including ethnicity, confidence in employment skills and personal skills. The participants included 537 graduates from a university in Melbourne and the results indicated that graduates from a non-English-speaking background were less likely to be employed full-time or part-time, and less confident of their personal and presentation skills, compared with those from an English-speaking background. Furthermore, graduates who were not employed were less confident of their employment skills than those who were employed. The implications of the above findings for career counselling are also discussed.
