Abstract
In 1994, Australian people are becoming optimistic about the future after five years of pessimism. The way people view their personal and working futures is a reflection of both their experience and of the way they naturally think. In the 1980s – the decade of downsizing – organisations did not have much room for lateral thinkers. Vision vanished from our enterprises along with a concern for the long term, and there was very little commitment to research and development and to organisational learning. Much of the capacity to adapt, innovate and change went too. Now the pendulum is swinging back the other way. Vision is coming back.
