Abstract
This paper concerns advice for people wishing to prepare themselves through education and other means for work in the human services In Australia. It briefly outlines the human services, the jobs, professional and occupational groups of which they are comprised, and employment prospects in them. It reports in more detail on a study of human service job advertisements from 1997 to 2000 in both a South Australian and a national newspaper. From data in the advertisements it comments briefly on implications for educators, the professions and employers, and elaborates on implications for prospective employees and students.
