Abstract
Occupational health and safety legislation in Australia and New Zealand has many common features, including the way in which both countries have been influenced by UK regulatory initiatives. The most recent example of this is the Lord Robens' report, Safety and Health at Work (1972). The application of the Robens' recommendations has not only varied between countries but has also created a great deal of debate. While the Robens Report has had a great deal of influence on the occupational health and safety of Australia and New Zealand, traditional approaches to injury and illness reduction are coming under increasing scrutiny and are beginning to be replaced by other approaches such as total quality management.
