This article summarizes the perceptions of several senior Human Resource Development
practitioners operating in four Australian states. It reviews the reasons for increased
expenditure on training the continuing shift in the focus of HRD within organizations,
the birth of a new HR organization, the changing role of the HRD practitioner and
the major concerns for 1992.
