he purpose of this research note is to investigate whether a change to employee ownership induces non-
managers' work attitudes to become more equal to those of managers. Investigation of this ownership
hypothesis is undertaken for a company which became employee owned and further illumination is shed on
the question by comparing the results of this study to those of Long (1977). The conclusion reached is that
whether employee ownership leads to such changes is problemantical and depends not only upon whether
employee ownership exists in an organization but also depends upon the distribution of ownership itself and
upon coincident structural changes.
