Abstract
Rapid changes in Australian organizations are limiting corporate management's responses particularly in the area of human resource management. These changes flowing from the environment and from organizational demands are also redefining the role of personnel departments and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
This is opening new demands for effective personnel management at corporate level and throughout the organization. It is undeniable that successful organizations in the next five years will consciously develop effective personnel management strategies. What is still at issue is the role that personnel practitioners will play in this. For those personnel practitioners with the ability to meet the changing challenges of corporate life their future will be good. However, this will require substantial changes to the experience, education and approach of many current personnel practitioners.
