The ASEAN region is considered one of the most dynamic areas of the world because of the sustained high rate of growth of its member economies during the last twenty years. In contrast to the bleak prognostication for the future of most countries in the developing world, the prevailing expectation is that the members of the ASEAN will all be counted among the "newly-industrialising countries" before the turn of the century.
