Abstract
In recent years there has been a large increase in the number of people working on shifts. This is the result of an increased demand for services around the clock and also the result of the introduction of new
technologies which require expensive capital equipment. This large capital investment provides the economic need for maximum equipment use through Shift Work.
The increase in the occurence of Shift Work has also increased the interest in various aspects of Shift Work: the social, behavioural and health conditions which may distinguish shiftworkers from day workers.
