Abstract
This is the first of three summaries of research concerned with the interview process. In this report evi dence is presented which indicates that the selection interview has an uncertain reliability and low validity. It is suggested that until individual organisations evaluate their interviewing practices less weight be attached to the interview.
Further brief reviews will focus an the dynamics of the interview and the interviewee's perception of the face-to-face situation.
