The nuns and Vatican II: Pandora’s box or goldmine?

Abstract

This article surveys the reception of Vatican II among women’s religious orders, especially in Australia. By describing the situation for women religious prior to the Council, and indicating the minimal levels of involvement by women in the Council, the article outlines the radical transformation that Vatican II had for women religious who interpreted and implemented the directions set out in the document Perfectae Caritatis.
