Abstract
Botswana has made strides in the improvement of the health status of her people, especially women and children. Examples are the high immunization coverage, high rate of contraceptive utilization and increased health institution delivery. However, the country's maternal death rate remains unacceptably high, estimated at 200 to 300 per 100, 000 live births. Of equal concern has also been ill-health related to pregnancy and child birth.
