Within a period of 6 weeks, three patients attended the emergency department of a public district hospital after committing suicide by taking an overdose of melatonin. Their hospital stay was uneventful. This attested to the safety of melatonin. As melatonin is recently available over the counter as a “sleeping pill”, it is expected that physicians will see more and more such overdose cases.
