This article used a case study to analyse representations of gender and sport in Finland's largest circulating daily newspaper. The textual analysis focused on five sports in which women are relative newcomers: boxing, ski jumping, hammer throwing, triple jump and pole vault. The article examines the different textual strategies that were used to (re)produce the two dominant discourses of trivialization/marginalization and equality.
