Abstract
Sociological research on sport organizations in Japan was essentially focussed on physical education classes, play groups and Undobu, mainly employing methods and techniques of social psychology. This situation, however, changed after 1975, when research on various sports organizations started to increase considerably. Due to the fact that the organizational structure of sports in Japan is confronted with a radical change, many organizational problems occur as a result of the popularization of sport. It is therefore necessary to develop research on large sport organizations and to analyze the power structure and the cultural hegemony.
