In the last decade philosphical and methodological problems of social sciences have been widely stressed again. This is also true for the Sociology of Sport. In the present contribution two theses are presented, analysed and defended: "(1) Philosophy of sport without sociology of sport is void; (2) Sociology of sport without philosophy of sport is blind." Besides that. a plea for a necessary integration of philosophical and social science approaches to the scientific analysis of sport is propounded.
