Abstract
This report deals with Polish sociological research on working class physical culture. Its development after the last World War is compared with the period between the two World Wars, information about the latter being available mainly from memoirs. Modern findings in the sociology of sport are often a by-product of research in cultural or industrial sociology. The significance of physical culture and sport for the working class subculture, in consideration of its relative disinterest in other cultural opportunities, is discussed, as well as the interest and participation of today's Polish labor force in sports acitivities.
