Abstract
The significance of the study of marriage chances of top female ahtletes extends beyond the private sphere. Marriage chances may influence the probability of reaching the status of top athlete, the early conclusion of sports careers and the course of life subsequent to such careers. They may indirectly affect even the quality of top female sport in a given country.
The marriage chances of top female ahtletes were analyzed on the basis of a complex empirical study carried out among Hungarian participants in the Olympic Games between 1948 and 1976. This analysis concludes with a comparison of the marriage opportunities for top female and male ahtletes.
