Abstract
The development of needs and motives is characterized by the respective his torically determined social conditions and the depending living conditions of the society. To obtain a higher level of sporting activity (in quantity and quality) of different social groups means to master in an ever increasing degree the dialectic relations of social conditions and individual behaviour, of development and satis faction of needs. Thus, it is of importance to perceive the quality of the social conditions and the social behaviour in and towards sports expressed in diffferent ways, the underlying interests, needs and motives by means of adequate methods and procedures. The higher thoretical and methodological claim in the investi gation of needs and motives consists above all in finding the degree and the effect of those aspects of determination of sporting activity of the personality, resulting from his position in society, from his affiliation to a sociostructural unit like class, stratum or social group. Thus, the possibility increases to compy with the formation of a sports directed motivation and finally with the development and satisfaction of needs in the social field of sports in a differentiating way.
Taking into account this complicated process, more people can be encouraged to regular sporting activity according to their interest and inclination with a high efficiency in terms of their physical well-being, joy and recreation.
The paper deals with theoretical and methodological positions and discusses selected results of research.
