Abstract
Research was conducted to determine the degree of the association between selected social factors of southeastern metropolitan American runners and their running adoption. Data were collected from 220 runners by means of self-adminis tered questionnaires. Concerning the degree of relationship, findings indicated that running adoption was significantly (p < .001) related to sex, with males char acterized by greater running adoption than females. While running adoption was significantly (p < .05) and positively related to occupational prestige, running adoption was not found to be significantly related to educational level.
