Abstract
The article examines the functioning of sports teams in terms of the interaction which occurs between the structure of the group, the nature of the task and the position of the leader. Specifically, attention is directed towards the following topics :
The composition of successful teams in terms of personality, orientations and attitudes of individual members. Methods of reducing interpersonal tension in teams. Relationships between coaching style, orientations of team members and successful performance.
The research literature concerned with the above areas is critically sum marized, important findings which have practical implications emphasized and problems for future investigation are indicated.
