Abstract
Research in the field of the sociology of sport in the Federal Republic of Germany has become stagnant. The reason for this stagnation is seen above all in the fact that research on the sociology of spurt has given up the idea of a general theory of society and therefore is unable to find the dialectic of sport behaviour and social relations. Only when reaching back to social relations, above all material production and reproduction of social life, will it be in a proper sociological manner possible to explain current development in such spheres as leisure pursuits and school sport.
