Abstract
This study aims to examine the intricate geopolitical dynamics arising from intensifying Sino-Russian cooperation in the Russian Far East (RFE) and its implications on Indo-Russian relations. The study utilizes Lowell Dittmer’s strategic triangular theory to analyse the evolving political development and its impacts on India’s geopolitical interests. This study’s findings indicate a strategic transformation in the RFE due to a strengthening Sino-Russian partnership, highlighted by a notable rise in Chinese investments. Concurrently, Russia seeks to balance China’s growing influence by fostering Indian investment, aiming to diversify its regional ties. Additionally, the study elucidates that Russia’s development strategy for the RFE reflects broader geopolitical objectives: reducing Western dependence, maintaining sovereignty over its Eastern territories and establishing a more prominent role in the Asia-Pacific region. The RFE, thus, emerges as a strategic platform where the future contours of Asian geopolitics and the global order are being shaped.
