Abstract
Stories of unimaginable cruelty have emerged on social media since 2023, when artificial intelligence (AI) programmes like Copilot, Gemini, and ChatGPT became available on most computers and cell phones. The cruelty begins when a boy usually uses AI to turn a photograph of a girl he knows into a nude or even sexual photo of her, and the image is posted on social media. She is shamed by the use of AI to victimise her. The victim could not force the image to be removed, and nothing in US law made this illegal until Congress passed the Take It Down Act. That is a law seeking to protect people from sexual exploitation by AI-generated content. However, the law changes the premise on which free speech can be censored or regulated. It threatens free speech. AI is creating free speech dilemmas in the United States.
