Abstract

Advances in Information and Communication technology, Imaging modalities and complimentary imaging techniques over the last few decades has seen a significant application of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiology in management of patients in clinical practice.
This special issue of Apollo Medicine brings together cutting-edge research, expert insights, and innovative practices in MSK Radiology. This issue will bring together the latest advancements and expert insights in the field.
A range of articles explore current and future trends of traditional and complementary imaging in the clinical assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic applications of MSK Radiology including the Integration of rapidly developing field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in MSK Radiology.
Gaurav Sharma and Anuja provide a practical overview on the Role of Ultrasound (USS) in Overuse and Sports Injuries, highlighting its dynamic utility in diagnosing and guiding soft tissue injury management protocols, especially in athletic populations.
Raghu Teja and Madhavi provide Current Updates on Trauma Imaging, charting the advances in imaging protocols and modalities that are improving outcomes in patients with trauma. Sandeep Velicheti and Manasa Mayukha highlight the crucial role of MSK Radiology in diagnosing and management of MSK Infection. Dr Neel and co-authors highlight the role of imaging in orthopaedic oncology in a succinct way. Radiation safety remains a keystone of MSK Radiology with a focus on patient and staff safety. Vijay Papineni and co-workers contributed a crucial review on Radiation Safety in MSK Imaging, advocating for dose optimisation and adherence to safety protocols.
Professor Rajesh Botchu’s article on long term effect of smartphone use resulting in upper extremity paraesthesia is worth reading. Vibhu Krishnan et al. present the significance of collaborative practice. A clinicians perspective and expectations are described in their scoping review ‘What Does an Orthopaedic Surgeon Expect from a Radiologist?’
Finally, Ajmera et al., explore the Integration of AI in MSK Radiology. Their work emphasises the role of AI is revolutionising diagnostic accuracy, Radiology workflow efficiency, and personalised medicine in radiological practice.
We hope that these MSK Special Issue would be of interest to Radiologists, Orthopaedic surgeons, researchers and clinicians in particular the readers of Apollo Medicine: Sage Journals. We would like to thank all the authors for their high-quality contributions, our diligent Peer-reviewers, Editor-in Chief: Dr (Professor) Raju Vaishya and the Editorial Board who have collaborated effectively to make this Apollo Medicine MSK Special issue a success.
