Abstract

Over the past two decades, Apollo Medicine, the official journal of the Apollo Hospitals Group, has established itself as a significant platform for researchers, clinicians and academicians to disseminate their scientific work and share valuable insights that contribute to improving healthcare standards globally.[1]
We celebrate not only the completion of two decades of publication but also the creation of a thriving community of authors, editors and readers who have collectively elevated the journal’s status. Apollo Medicine remains committed to providing a space where quality research can flourish and contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of medicine.[2,3]
One of the most significant milestones in our growth story is the transition to a bimonthly publication schedule, effective January 2025. This change reflects our dedication to meeting the increasing demand for the timely dissemination of research findings and clinical advancements. By shifting from a quarterly to a bimonthly format, we will be able to release a greater number of articles each year, ensuring that our readers have access to the latest and most relevant information in a more timely manner.
At the heart of Apollo Medicine is a diverse editorial board composed of 58 distinguished members from across the globe. This panel of esteemed researchers and specialists brings together a rich tapestry of knowledge and experience, fostering a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives can thrive. We take great pride in our gender diversity, with women constituting 22.5% of our editorial board. The international representation—19% of our board hails from overseas—further enhances the journal’s credibility. Moreover, 42% of our editors are affiliated with institutions outside the Apollo group of hospitals, broadening the scope of expertise and facilitating global dialogue on essential health issues. We are especially honoured to share that in 2024, 11 of our esteemed editors were recognised as part of the top 2% of global researchers by Stanford University.[4] This acknowledgement underscores the high standards of scholarship that Apollo Medicine seeks to uphold and highlights the calibre of talent that collaborates for our journal. It is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our editorial team, who tirelessly work to review and curate high-quality research, ensuring that only the most impactful articles are published.
Over the past seven years, we have witnessed a significant upward trajectory in the volume and impact of our publications. In 2018, we published 68 articles, and by 2024, that number had risen to 102 [Figure 1]—a clear indication of our expanding reach and influence. This growth is further illustrated by our data, which reveals that nearly two-thirds of these publications are contributed by non-Apollo authors. This increasing interest from external contributors exemplifies the journal’s appeal within the broader medical community and its role as a vital repository for innovative research and clinical findings.
Seven-year publication trends in Apollo Medicine showing an increasing percentage number of publications by non-apollo authors
The rising number of submissions across various medical and surgical specialities reinforces Apollo Medicine’s reputation as a trusted platform for disseminating scholarly work [Figure 2]. Our commitment to diversity in topics ensures that we are not only publishing groundbreaking research but also fostering an inclusive environment where a variety of medical disciplines are represented. As we look to the future, our goal remains to welcome papers that push the boundaries of medical knowledge, addressing emerging trends and challenges in the healthcare landscape. The analytical trends of our publication also reveal an encouraging trajectory regarding the acceptance rates and the growing interest from researchers aiming to contribute to our journal. A healthy acceptance rate over the years reflects our rigorous review process, ensuring that only the most relevant and high-quality research is available to our audience. This stringent selection fosters a culture of excellence, encouraging authors to pursue innovative research that contributes meaningfully to the field of medicine. In addition to impressive bibliometric growth, Apollo Medicine has seen a notable rise in publication views and downloads.

Our commitment to accessibility and visibility is emphasised by our partnerships with indexing organisations. Currently indexed with the Directory of Open Access Journal (DOAJ) and Google Scholar, we are actively pursuing inclusion in prestigious indexing platforms such as Embase, PubMed Central, Web of Science, Expanded Science Citation Index (ESCI) and Scopus. Achieving these goals will further enhance the reach and impact of our journal, allowing us to disseminate knowledge more widely and engage with a broader audience.
As we celebrate our achievements, we cannot overlook those who have made this journey possible. Our heartfelt gratitude extends to our editorial board, dedicated peer reviewers and authors whose relentless dedication and expertise have propelled Apollo Medicine to new heights. Without their unwavering support and commitment to quality, our journal would not be where it is today. Their contributions are invaluable in ensuring that we adhere to the highest standards of research and scholarship.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the future opportunities that lie before us. We are proud to announce a special issue focused on Advancing Metabolic Health scheduled for publication in May 2025. This initiative marks our commitment to highlighting critical health issues and facilitating discussions that advance the field of metabolic health. We invite our readers and contributors to engage with this timely topic, as we believe that it is crucial for the advancement of public health and the enhancement of clinical practices.
As we embark on the next chapter of our journey, Apollo Medicine remains steadfast in its mission to be a leading voice in medical discourse—not only in India but across the globe. Our ongoing efforts to publish reputable research and encourage innovative thought will continue to shape the future of healthcare. Together with our community of authors, editors and readers, we look forward to advancing the frontiers of medical knowledge, paving the way for a healthier and more informed world.
