Abstract

Apollo Medicine is the official journal of Apollo Hospitals Group and we are proud to have completed a successful journey of 19 years of regular publication of this quarterly journal. It has provided a valuable platform for researchers, clinicians and academicians, to share and publish their scientific work. Apollo Medicine has a diverse Editorial Board, of esteemed researchers and specialists, with 54 members from across the world, with a gender diversity, with 29.6% of our members being females. Overall, 20% of the Editorial Board members are from overseas, and 44% are from outside the Apollo group of hospitals.
Apollo Medicine has been indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals, since 2021. The research articles published in this Journal are recognised by the National Medical Commission of India. It is also registered with several global abstracting partners, like Google Scholar, Hinari, etc., and publishes different types of articles, namely, Original Research, Reviews, Case reports and Clinical images. The journal is distributed to all Consultants of Apollo Group, most Government and Private Medical Colleges across the country, medical libraries and various subscribers around the world. Even though Apollo Medicine is an open-access journal, the authors are not charged any Article Processing Charges and all costs of publication are currently borne by Apollo Hospitals group.
In addition to four regular issues, in 2023, two supplementary issues were published, to meet the increasing number of publications of this journal (Table 1). We have initiated the publication of theme-based special issues for three years on a specific speciality which are led by a Guest editor of repute.

Overall, we have seen an increase in the number of publications, which have been well-read and downloaded in larger numbers year after year (Table 1). The total viewership of the published content of Apollo Medicine in the last five years has crossed one million. The number of submissions by the authors outside the Apollo Group of Hospitals has increased from 45% in 2017 to 71% in 2022 (Figure 1), indicating its popularity and acceptance nationally and globally.

The yearly submissions to Apollo Medicine have been ~2.5 times in the last six years (Figure 2). The acceptance rate of the journal, in 2023, was 31% (Figure 3). We have also published an increased number of original research articles in 2023, which should help to improve the likelihood of an increasing number of citations. Apollo Medicine will now be published by another international publisher, SAGE from 1 January 2024. The recent transition to SAGE is in line with our commitment to make this journal indexed by other prestigious indexing bodies like PubMed Central, Web of Science, Expanded Science Citation Index and Scopus. We are extremely thankful to our editorial board members, reviewers and authors for their valuable support in making this journal reach its heights. To commemorate the 25 years of Liver Transplantation in India, we have planned a special issue on Liver Transplant in 2024. Our efforts will continue to make this journal a well-received and read journal by eminent global authors from India and Overseas.
