Abstract
Over a period of two decades the achievements of SAARC have been dismal due to several reasons but its success in maintaining peace in the region cannot be undermined. Unlike other more successful regional associations bilateral problems have frustrated cooperative effort in realizing its objectives. But with increasing interdependence among nations it will be unwise to neglect the organisation. Rather efforts should be made to strengthen it for which India has to play preeminent role.
