Abstract
This paper aims to discuss the organised efforts for social, economic and political emancipation of Dalits in Tamil Nadu during the pre and post independence years. It also deals with the social status of Dalits in Tamil Nadu in the context of the implementation of the constitutional provisions.
Section 1 attempts to provide an overview of Dalit settlements in India. Section 2 gives a profile ofDalit settlements in Tamil Nadu. Section 3 presents the methodology of the micro study while Section 4 presents the findings of the micro study.
