Abstract
In view of the complexity of today's research problems, it is increasingly felt that scientists should move beyond the boundaries of their own disciplines, especially when it concerns issues and impacts related with global environmental and climatic perturbations. Knowledge of ecological, socio-political and several economic policies is essential when one requires to develop a sound understanding of ecosystem. While dealing with many of the recently evolved issues like “Ecological Foot-printing (EF)” and “Carbon Foot-printing (CF)” etc., the present paper illustrates some model development exercises for Region-Specific GHG-Emission-Factors (ERG), which are based on realistic parameters for which data can be easily collected. The article also discusses those issues on which we should focus our immediate attention and continuously work on their future refinement. In particular, issues related to methane emission from wetlands, mangroves and hydroelectric reservoirs are analyzed. Need for spatial as well as temporal extrapolations of the local and regional values to global scales are also discussed. In short, the article presents a snap-shot of the kind of activities which need regular pursuance, refinement, modification and application in regard to evolving site-specific, region-specific and ecosystem-specific environmental management plans aimed at combating the climate regulated environmental crisis which is unfolding before us every day with a newer dimension.
