Abstract
Global colonialism normally refers to a periods of history from 15 th to the late 19th centuries, when the European nations began to establish colonies on other continents. Manipur became one of the British colonies after 23 rd April 1891 in South East Asia. Significant changes took place as a result of colonization, including the occurrence of Nupi Lan (Women's Agitation). An attempt has been made in this paper to discuss the agrarian structure and institutions in the pre-colonial period, and how these institutions underwent changes, whether through evolution or outright abolition of agrarian structure and institutions during the British colonialism, as also, how these changes impacted upon the economy and its productive base, especially agriculture.
