Abstract
From time immemorial, the Meiteis of Manipur have been observing magico-retigious practices to control, cure and induce diseases and infirmities through the shamans, locally known as the Maiba and the Maibee. Through their different ritualistic procedures and practices, they interpret, diagnose and treat different cases of ailments. Exorcism, herbal treatment, puk-shubs, prayer and pujah to Idhou/pari, Lainingthou Sanamahi and the Umanglais are the beliefs and practices still in vogue, though modern medical system of treatment is also widely practiced.
