Abstract
Data Mining technology is a technique that Information Technology has provided to help organisations understand the purchasing behaviour of key customers, likely trends as well as predict changes in the financial markets. Thus, it could lead to managing business more effectively to gain competitive edge. The concept of data warehouse and data mining emerged from the need to analyse business information faster. Data mining aims at using existing data to invent new facts and to uncover new relationships. Data mining finds applications in a variety of industries and retail solutions to marketing, manufacturing, health care applications, etc. Thus at a time when organisations are flooded with information, data warehousing and datamining enable the decision-maker in a business organisation to process this huge data to extract intelligence/knowledge in near real time.
