Abstract
The strategic mapping of research knowledge through corporate intranets and knowledge management informatics initiatives is gaining importance in the bio-pharmaceutical industry. The silent merger of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, which are driven by the high-end research and development activities, is playing a pivotal role towards bio-pharmaceutical sectoral growth and development. Further, there is an enhancement in performance-based expectations and demand towards improving medication related to different genetic and non-genetic diseases in the post-human genomic era through personalized medicines. Synchronization through mapping of systems and processes within the available organizational human resources and intellectual capital networks (ICN) would collectively bring out the best knowledge sharing practices, which are of prime importance for the industry's sustenance. Long-term sustainability for this industry is in terms of the strategic knowledge management practices through cross-functional human resources and their ability to contribute and leap ahead of the market competition through sustainable innovation and economics. With most of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies looking towards mergers and alliances for their survival, organizational structures that protect the critical creativity are essential for their future survival. Post-human genomics stands to revolutionize and fragment further the industry and the very nature of practising science.
