In the background of the enormous potential for saving energy in the lighting sector in India, we present a synopsis of some relevant international experiences and underline the gaps in the current studies relating to CFL use or dissemination in India. The intention is to exhort scholars and lighting professionals to address these gaps, so that a practical and implementable framework is developed to accelerate the adoption of CFLs and other efficient lighting solutions in India.
