Abstract
This study was designed to assess the physical development of premature and normal infants with the help ofthe anthropometric norms given by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR). Fifty children were studied: 25 premature and 25 normal. Height, weight, head circumference and chest circumference were measured. The findings revealed that the difference between both normal and the premature infants was significant only— the first nine months. It was concluded that if proper care, nutrition and attention are given to premature infants, theirgrowth can be as normal as of full-term infants. Second, no differences based on sex were found in the development of premature infants.
