Abstract
Software, the major component of digital world, is all about the using the power of ideas to solve problems. The relation of software industry and the Intellectual Property Rights is a tricky one. There is a debate going on worldwide on the issue: copyright or open end free software? As per the legal opinion. IPR provisions must be implemented irrespective of a firm, industry or country is concerned. But from an analyst's point of view, this issue needs to be viewed in a wider perspective. The paper is an attempt to analyze the IPRs with reference to socio-economic dynamics of software piracy.
