Abstract
Chidambaram's Budget for 1997-98 has received well-deserved acclaim. Some economists have started indulging in nit picking while others have gone to the other extreme of calling it an agenda for 21st century. The author finds that the truth lies in between. The paper brings out how the Budget tries to satisfy everybody except those who are enjoying good life without paying tax. Only they will be asked to pay a little more tax and enjoy the best things of life.
