Abstract
Improvements in the compatibility and mechanical properties of blends of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and poly(ε-caprolactam) (PA6) were sought by the addition of 4,4′-biphenol as a reactive compatibiliser. As a result, when 4,4′-biphenol 6 phr was added to the PBT/PA6 (weight ratio: 60/40) blend, its compatibility and flexural strength and modulus were considerably improved. Electron spectroscopic for chemical analysis of the PBT/PA6/4,4′-biphenol blend suggested the reaction of the amide group of the PA6 with the biphenol.
