Abstract
An investigation into the pinned joint strength of laminated composite plate was performed. Numerical prediction of joint strength using ply material properties and geometrical parameters, such as width and edge distance to hole diameter ratios has been made. Six failure criteria with material properties degradation rules were proposed to model the joint failure behaviour. The technique of progressive failure analysis was used to simulate the ultimate failure load of mechanical joints in laminated composite plate. Numerical results were compared with experimental data. They showed excellent agreement.
