Abstract
Grafting of methyl acrylate and 4-vinyl pyridine onto Gelatin has been studied in air in aqueous media by the mutual method. Optimum conditions for maximum grafting have been evaluated. Rate of grafting (Rg) was determined as a function of initial monomer concentration. Graft copolymers were characterized by infra red spectroscopic and thermogravimetric analysis. Grafted samples showed a slight improvement in thermal stability. Methyl acrylate was found to be more reactive than 4-vinyl pyridine towards grafting.
