Abstract
Pigments are major contributors to the aesthetic appeal and marketability of plastics. The lightfastness of some pigments used in polymer systems can be substantially improved through the incorporation of an ultraviolet light stabilizer. More than most synthetic polymers, polyolefins rely heavily on polymer additives to provide enhanced performance. The effect of pigments on the weatherability of plastics and their interaction with light stabilizers are of great importance to part manufacturers. In this paper, pigment stabilizer interaction will be discussed as a function of UV durability and colour shifts.
