Cold-Crystallisation of Polyphenylene Sulphide,Studied by Measuring the Electrical Resistance of a Carbon-Fibre Polyphenylene-Sulphide-Matrix Composite
Cold-crystallisation of polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) was studied by measuring the electrical resistance of a continuous-carbon-fibre PPS-matrix composite in the fibre direction during heating after cold-crystallisation. Melting of PPS caused a peak in the plot ofresistance vs. temperature. Cold-crystallisation was found to cause an extra peak at a lower temperature in this plot. due to the melting of the portion of PPS that had undergone cold-crystallisation. The resistance results are supported by calorimetry.
