The benefits of a 3D solid model in the design and manufacture of woven textile reinforced composite materials are discussed. A prototype system to extract reference data automatically from a solid model of the constituent yarn paths is described. A procedure to output the relevant yarn parameters is demonstrated. The system that has been developed will provide the data necessary for existing down-stream analysis systems which predict the stiffness matrix for a textile reinforced composite.
