Abstract
This paper describes the numerical simulation of bird strike damage response of 3-D (three-dimensional) braided I-shaped beam composite structures. The finite element model of a windshield structure including keel, glass, frame-work and rubber was established, in which the proper boundary condition was defined. The model contained five types of braiding modes. Three kinds of thickness (10 mm, 15 mm and 20 mm), and all of these models were impacted by three different velocities (80 m/s, 150 m/s and 200 m/s) respectively. The commercial FE package PAM-CRASH was used to analyse and the results including the damage, displacement and strain of the windshield were obtained, which are consistent with experimental observations.
