Abstract
A low cost solvent casting method has been used for the preparation of films of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and their blends. Samples of PVC, PVA and their blends with different ratios of dimethylformamide (DMF) were prepared on glass substrates and their morphological, optical and dielectric properties investigated. The surface of the PVA sample was more homogenous than that of PVC, and agglomeration of the PVC was observed in the matrix of PVA in the blend sample. The electrical conductivity of the blend was higher than that of the PVC and PVA samples. The a.c. conductivity, dielectric constant and dielectric loss tangent (tanδ) were measured at different frequencies and temperatures. The dielectric behaviour of the samples is discussed.
