1 The concept of `Latin America' includes all South and Central American countries in which Spanish, Portuguese or French (Haiti) is spoken. In the case of South America, Suriname, Guyana and French Guyana are excluded. In Central America, Belize is excluded. The last-mentioned countries, together with the anglophone Caribbean states, form the group of countries known as CARICOM.
